Living Life to the Fullest: JD Webb

By Christine Martin, Executive Director at Community Life Bridge

This month I had the privilege of sitting down with JD Webb, a local author of fiction. With his passion for life, he views the world around him as potential plots for his writing.

JD grew up in Illinois and found himself joining the Air Force as a young adult during the Vietnam War. After testing high in language abilities, he studied Chinese and served in Vietnam and the Philippines as an interpreter. When he returned home, JD headed into Corporate America and took the skills he learned in the Air Force and worked on a team to develop a location system. In fact, they did such a good job, the system he worked to develop put him out of a job. Moving into his next career adventure led him to owning a shoe repair shop, building off his younger years of being a shoe salesman.

Throughout these different seasons of his life, JD wrote short stories as his hobby. So, at the age of 61, when it was time to give up the shoe repair shop, his wife suggested that he focus on his writing. With his wife by his side as his editor and to hold him accountable to his passion, he began to write complete novels. JD’s first two books were originally published in 2006 in the genres of mysteries and thrillers. His 8th book, Frequent Flier, came out in April of 2026.

As an author, JD has been intentional to truly live his days in a way to experience life to the fullest. He never meets a stranger and never hesitates to talk to anybody. He teaches a writing class at the Gallatin Public Library and loves to see the progress those taking his class make in their writing. JD carries his faith in God with him throughout each day, providing literature that is clean and where the good guys always win and the bad guys always lose. His travels with his wife inspired him to develop storylines that reflect all parts of our country and play off the lives of people who have surrounded him.

If you ask JD what keeps him active, he attributes his ability to be active at the age of 85 to consistent exercise, keeping routine in your life and seeing your role in life as helping others. He feels that if everyone helped someone else, it would be a great world to live in! He also believes that life is a matter of adjustment. You must adjust to your circumstances and move around or through the situation to continue your path forward. If we get stuck in it, this can negatively impact our quality of life.
