I signed up as a rider after my husband passed away. I was learning to live on my own, and that is not easy when you are are legally blind. I wasn’t sure about riding with volunteers, and was surprised the first time Joe pulled up in a tall SUV that looked like it was a mile off the ground. I got into it without too much trouble, but when I stepped out and down onto the running board, I wondered where the ground was! I asked Joe if he had a fireman’s pole to get down, and he laughed. I was nervous about a male driver, but Joe immediately put me at ease with his kindness. Trying new things can be scary, but it helps when you have a friend to help you along the way.
