I moved to Portland to live with my mom when she needed help. She passed away in 2020, and it was a really hard time. I found myself looking for a way to connect and give back to my new community. I don’t remember how I heard about Community Life Bridge, but I knew that it was what I was looking for. I’ve always had a passion for caregiving, and serving the elderly. They have worked hard all their lives, and to lose their freedom is a really tough blow. I wanted to help seniors keep living their lives, and I’m happy to be the one to help them do that by giving them a ride. Two years and 8,000 miles later, I know that they were helping me. This is what I needed to heal, and I have been blessed by all the riders that I have gotten to know. I am proud to volunteer in memory of my mom Veda Anita Payne.
